Although wigs may be categorized as an accessory, they need as much as care as your own hair. Despite it being technically ‘lifeless’ wigs, just like any other material possession, need that very extra TLC in order for it to last long. The excessive heat from the weather may be out of your concerns during autumn, the impending cold climate will surely take a toll on your wigs just the same.
Here are simple steps in maintaining wigs during autumn so that they can last long even in the cooler weather:
1. Protection is still crucial even with the decreasing humidity.
As the winter approaches, the fall season also brings with it the cool weather. Make sure to protect your hair from the coolness of the weather by counteracting it with intense moisturization through wearing hair protection such as a scarf, as the cold weather can stiffen the hair strands, causing frizz. With that being said, on your wig-washing days, make sure your wig is dry before heading out.
2. Moisturize like it’s a ritual.
As mentioned, the cold weather may freeze hair strands which can lead to freeze. To counteract it, moisturize your wig using wig-specific conditioners that’s can cater the dryness brought about by the cold weather in order to prevent breakage and lengthen the lifespan of your wig.
3. Care for your hair properly.
Aside from moisturizing, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle knots on your wig instead of using brushes that can cause friction, which results to frizz and breakage. Be mindful of the proper hair brushing technique as this is much more important than the tool itself. It’s completely pointless to have the appropriate hair tool if you don’t even know how to use it.
